An honest opponent

The computer never sees your cards, the crib or the deck, and it never touches the deal. Its three levels – Casual, Standard and Expert – differ only in how well they choose. Ask for a hint, and see why it discarded what it did.

Every deal, sealed and checkable

Before the first cut you see the seal of the shuffle, and you cut the deck with your own hand. After the game, tap Verify: Pegwood reveals the seed and replays every deal.

Play a friend by link

Send an invite link by Messages, email or any app you like. No account, no sign-up, no turn timers. Games with friends are free and never sit behind a paywall.

Big, readable cards

Large cards and an optional four-color deck, with suits that differ by shape, not by color alone. VoiceOver throughout, text that follows your iPhone’s text size, Reduce Motion respected, and a tap to pick a card – no dragging.

Every deal is sealed before you play

Streaks happen in any card game. In Pegwood you never have to wonder whether they were arranged.

  1. The seal

    Before the first cut, Pegwood creates a secret random number that decides every shuffle, and shows you its seal – a short code that fixes the seed without revealing it.

  2. Your cut

    Before every deal you cut the deck with a swipe. Your cut is mixed into the shuffle, so no one – not the app, not the computer, not the server – could have picked a seed that favors one side.

  3. Verify

    After the game, Pegwood reveals the seed, checks it against the seal and replays every deal with your cuts: “All deals match”, or exactly which deal differs.

For the technically minded: the seed is 256 bits, the seal is its SHA-256 hash, and each deck is a Fisher–Yates shuffle driven by HMAC-SHA256 of the seed, the deal number and your cut.

Play someone you love

Take your turn with the morning coffee, and they answer in the evening. Pegwood lets you know when it’s your move.

  1. Tap Play a Friend

    Choose a game to 121, or a short game to 61.

  2. Pick your name

    The name your friend will see – a first name or a nickname is perfect.

  3. Send the link

    Messages, WhatsApp, email – whatever you both use. Your friend taps it, installs Pegwood if needed, and joins.

No accounts, no usernames, no passwords. The server deals the cards, so neither of you can see the other’s hand.

Free to play

Pegwood is free to download and free to play, against the computer or with a friend. Pegwood Pro is a one-time purchase, not a subscription. It adds the Nordic and Lodge tables, deeper analysis of every discard and play, and detailed statistics. Family Sharing is on.

No coins, no bets, no loot boxes.

Private by design

There is no account and no email address to give. Games against the computer are played entirely on your iPhone and work offline. For games with a friend, our server keeps only a random ID, the name you choose to show your friend, a token for turn notifications and your games together.
